Natural Convection Boundary Layers Adjacent to Pyrolyzing Surfaces

چکیده

The temperature, velocity, and concentration distributions were measured in boundary layers adjacent to heated vertical polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and wood (Southern Pine) surfaces, and next to a heated, vertical, sintered bronze plate through which propane was injected. The temperature, velocity, and concentration were measured as functions of position and time using thermocouple probes, flow visualization techniques, and heterodyne holographic interferometry, respectively. The measured distributions were compared to the results of a simple model. The agreement between the measured values and the results of the model was generally good and was within the experimental uncertainty.

A Comparative Solution of Natural Convection in an Open Cavity using Different Boundary Conditions via Lattice Boltzmann Method

A Lattice Boltzmann method is applied to demonstrate the comparison results of simulating natural convection in an open end cavity using different hydrodynamic and thermal boundary conditions. The Prandtl number in the present simulation is 0.71, Rayleigh numbers are 104,105 and 106 and viscosities are selected 0.02 and 0.05. On-Grid bounce-back method with first-order accuracy and non-slip met...

Bubble dynamics during the non-isothermal degassing of liquids. Exploiting microgravity conditions.

This work reviews the up to date state of understanding of dynamic phenomena occurring when gas bubbles grow over submerged heated surfaces. Gas bubbles are produced on hot surfaces because the adjacent liquid layers become superheated causing local desorption of dissolved gases while the liquid far afield remains at low temperatures. Non-isothermal degassing is a very complex process combining...

Numerical Approximation of Two-dimensional Convection-diffusion Equations with Multiple Boundary Layers

In this article, we demonstrate how one can improve the numerical solution of singularly perturbed problems involving multiple boundary layers by using a combination of analytic and numerical tools. Incorporating the structures of boundary layers into finite element spaces can improve the accuracy of approximate solutions and result in significant simplifications. We discuss here convection-dif...

Three-dimensional convection simulations of the outer layers of the Sun using realistic physics

This paper describes a series of three-dimensional simulations of shallow inefficient convection in the outer layers of the Sun. The computational domain is a closed box containing the convection–radiation transition layer, located at the top of the solar convection zone. The most salient features of the simulations are that: (i) the position of the lower boundary can have a major effect on the...
